Creative Process

After much iteration and development over the course of these 2 years I have developed a three stage creative process that allows me to consistently learn and produce quality content when approaching and developing a task. This creative process is transferable and I am satisfied that it always gives me the opportunity to learn.

The three titles I give to my creative processes are; Discover, Design & Deliver.

·       The term ‘Discover’ represents a step in my creative process that sums up the exploration process of design. Namely finding things I like, would require for reference & inspiration when creating something. All these things are put together into a Mood board or style tile that I keep to hand during the next stage of my process. (A website software that I use to greatly increase the efficiency of this process is called Pinterest.com; which is a media boarding website.) The main aim of this process is to be open minded and observant identifying things I would like to include in my design.

·       The term ‘Design’ represents just that; it is the stage that I draw upon my mood boards to create several iterations that could potentially become the final design. Similar to the last stage I attempt to keep an open mind combining my inspirations together in order to craft something interesting and new. This stage can come in the form of ‘thumbnail’ sketches both traditionally or digitally. When designing for media it can also be a storyboard for an animation or a draft for a character board anything that represents a potential future design.

·       The final stage of this process is called ‘Deliver’. This word represents the final created design, creating the end product. If it were an illustration it would be the final print. If it were media it would be the final animation or movie. The process of this stage is to define and polish. In the traditional world it could be a painting but in modern industry it would likely be the final render of a software document ready for the client. The aim of this stage is to be critical and to fully refine the result.
